Clear vision is important at all times of the day, all year round. That is why we stock a large range of designer sunglasses that all have the ability to be converted into prescription sunglasses. Having a comfortable and fashionable pair of glasses that also gives you clear vision means that you wear your sunglasses more often and therefore protect your eyes to harmful Ultra Violet rays.
The sun emits 2 types of UV rays; UVA and UVB. UVA can affect your central vision by causing damage to the macular. UVB is absorbed by your cornea, potentially causing even more damage than UVA rays.
Absorption of Ultra Violet rays can cause/affect the following conditions:
Macular Degeneration (vision loss)
Cataract (clouding eyes)
Pterygium (white growth)
Skin Cancer (around the eyelids)
Corneal Sunburn (photokeratitis)
COMBATTING THE AFFECTS OF UV RADIATION
The best thing to do to prevent any damage from the sun is to take precautions. Therefore, we recommend wearing sunglasses at times of high sun exposure. It is much easier to prevent damage, than repair it. Individuals who require prescription lenses to carry out their day-to-day life benefit from the option of having a prescription pair of sunglasses. They provide the most comprehensive protection from the sun.
Some sunglass frames will be more suitable than others, depending on your prescription. For help, advise and information, please come visit us in store and we will be happy to assist you.
WHAT CAN WE OFFER?
A polarised filter on your prescription lenses will reduce the glare you experience when the light waves from the sun are reflected off various surfaces. This prevents you from squinting which reduces eye strain and allows for much clearer and comfortable vision.
Although we recommend polarised lenses for glare reduction, we also offer tinted prescription lenses for those who polarised lenses are not suitable for. The tinted lenses still offer the appropriate level of UV protection, with the option to customise the darkness of the tint and an option to select a graduated tint. Tinted lenses are more beneficial for those people who use LCD screens, pilots and operators of heavy machinery.
Back Surface UV Protection
For most frames, there is almost always gaps around the side where sunlight can potentially create glare. To combat this issue, we offer a coating which is applied to the back surface of your lenses. This coating prevents any light or UV rays from coming through the side gaps of your sunglasses, bouncing off the back of your lens and into your eye. With this coating, the light transfers through the lens and out the other side, allowing for optimum protection and comfort for your eyes.
